Online Drawing Workshop, on Plants

We rarely speak of them, and their names elude us.

Philosophy has always ignored them—more out of disdain than neglect.

Art, on the other hand, never forgot them, yet often treats them as: “still life,” “objects” of beauty, “inspiration” for forms, decorative patterns, and geometric motifs.

In “My Flower” through six creative sessions, we expand and explore our design practices around these tireless transformers of rare poetic power: plants.

We experiment by drawing stories from

the invisible life of plants,

their silent dialogues,

de/colonial journeys of seeds,

their dual existence (outside in the air, inside the earth),

their amphibious life,

rhizomatic and roots collective networks,

their tactile imprints, and, of course,

the explosive energy of these beings who, without hands, ceaselessly shape matter.

An introduction to understanding the plant world through drawing.

By observing the world of plants with care, sensitivity, and emotion fragments of our own memories return, deepening our appreciation for the fragile world we cohabitate and allowing us to reimagine our ecological interconnectedness.

A world where the boundaries between matter and imagination, fantasy and self-growth, do not exist.

Essentials: Willingness to “return to nature,” engage in plant dialogues, explore theories, and art references and techniques related to botany and ecocology. Tools may include a pencil, pen, mouse, brush—or any creative medium you dream of using.

This workshop is part of a participatory drawing series to expand our artistic practices toward nature and ecologies.

Duration: 6 experimental sessions, or 12 hours across 42 rotations of the Earth’s star, or the time of an unpredictable artistic adventure.
